Archiprix
International 2005 Exhibition
24 June - 07 August 2005
Archiprix International is a biennial event that presents the worlds' best
graduation projects from higher educational institutions within the fields
of architecture, urban design and landscape architecture.
Glasgow was chosen to host this global event in 2005. Schools from all over
the world selected their best graduation projects to be exhibited at The Lighthouse,
Glasgow.
The exhibition was designed by NORD in conjunction with Antenna Men, Holland
and aimed not only to capture the character of the individual student but also
the global dimension of the projects.
Utilising standard components more typically associated with airport thoroughfares
and departure lounges the exhibition alludes to the airport as common international
architectural non-place typology.

A
standard ceiling system was ‘folded’ to create defined enclosures
within the existing exhibition hall volume. Here, the ceiling becomes walls,
and vice-versa, which house the student projects and exhibition content. Associated
models and seating are envisaged as freestanding objects within the spaces.
Display monitors within the wall structure display information in a similar
fashion to arrival/departure boards. Conversation captured on short-wave radio
from across the globe serves as a background ‘soundtrack’, reinforcing
the idea of the ‘global village’.
Archiprix International 2005 was organised by The Lighthouse in association
with the Scottish Executive, Glasgow City Council, Glasgow School of Art and
Strathclyde University
